On October 16, 2000, my favorite baseball team, the New York Mets were one win away from clinching a trip to the World Series. As a young kid, I sat in row T, section 48 of the upper deck at Shea Stadium, the home of the Mets at the time. It was about as far away from home plate as one could sit, but it didn’t matter, I was there. Late on that cold autumn night I watched a fly ball off the bat of Rick Wilkins of the St. Louis Cardinals, land in the glove of a leaping Timo Perez in center field. That catch secured the National League title for the Mets and the elation I felt sealed my fate. I knew my future would always involve sports.

I graduated with a degree in physical education from SUNY Cortland and have taught for the past 17 years in New York City. I earned my master’s from Columbia University. It was there I was able to combine my love of sports with my other passion, photography, as I began capturing images at the Ivy League school’s sporting events. What started as a volunteer photographer role quickly blossomed into a thriving independent business with many clients within a few years.

It wasn’t long before I was walking the sidelines of sporting events at NFL games to children’s fun runs and everything in between. I have had the pleasure of covering a wide array of different sports from fencing to football and basketball to boxing. As a freelance sports photographer, I have worked with an extensive client base including Getty Images, Associated Press, New York Islanders, Newsday and the NYRR, working on deadline at nearly all assignments. I have extensive experience working as both a photographer and editor at a wide variety of sporting and entertainment events. My assignments have provided me the opportunity to work as both an editor and photographer at major events such as the Stanley Cup playoffs, World Series, Super Bowl, NBA playoffs, US Open and PGA tour events to name a few. I currently serve as the National Hockey League team photographer with the New York Islanders. In addition to sports, I have developed an expertise in nature, portrait and event photography.

Beginning in 2018 I also began working on a personal project and future photo book dedicated to the veterans of World War II and survivors of the Holocaust. To learn more please visit the TheNecessaryWar.com

When not working, you’ll find me spending time with my daughter, watching Ken Burns documentaries, attending a concert or wandering in nature.
